Description
Harmonics disrupts the power source’s current sinewave and hence adversely affects various power system components. According to most published surveys, 65-85 percent of power quality issues are caused by anything occurring within the facility, on the customer side of the point of common coupling. The supplied voltage may be incompatible with equipment within the facility due to the wiring or the loads themselves. As a result, the process is disrupted, productivity is slowed, and money is lost.
The course goal is to educate students on the problem of harmonics. This course will cover harmonics, as well as how harmonic reduction can result in immediate savings in terms of power losses, electricity bills, and the ability to utilize the entire system’s capacity. IEEE-519 recommendation is covered in-depth.
