Description
This course provides a basic understanding of 5G New Radio Channels as defined by 3GPP standards and specifications. The 5G air interface is an important part of the 5G system which will accommodate Enhanced mobile Broadband (eMBB) and Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communication, (uRLLC) as well as the support of Massive IoT (Internet of Things). This course focuses on the physical layer design of NR in terms of orthogonal frequency-division Multiplexing OFDM numerologies, radio frames, subframes and slot configurations. The course explains the purpose of, and processing of, physical channels with a particular focus on control channels. Reference signals for data demodulation, CSI measurements, and sounding are explained. Layer 1 procedures for synchronization, random access, scheduling, HARQ, measurements and beam management are described. In so doing, both SA (Standalone) and NSA (Non-Standalone) operations are discussed. The course details all aspects, from the physical layer channel and reference signals, through to scheduling and analysis of NR RRC signaling utilized to configure the NR air interface. The content and flow are structured to introduce 5G New Radio (5G NR) air interface channels along with a basic cell search and random access procedure with a focus on technical design principles and their impacts on performance and deployment scenarios.
