Being a lifelong learner and student of Unani Herbalism, I always felt the need for a novel approach to studying this western Herbalism. There was a lack of order in studying herbs to make it easier to remember them all through life. This series of books aims at making the journey of studying Unani Herbalism interesting, innovative and engaging, and an attempt from a student’s perspective. The Series can serve to be a complete guide for Undergraduates in understanding Herbs , their usage from ancient times to the modern age of Research, and evidence-based medicine to invoke interest in further research and clinical studies.
The series starts with book 1 titled Unani Herbalism and its heroes, which includes three sections
Plant and Planets- an introduction to the world of Greens
Herbal Botany- Basic botany for a Herbalist
Heroes of Herbalism- Herbalist from ancient Greece to Modern India.
Book- Unani Nutraceuticals- divided into 4 parts.
It includes Medicinal Food (Giza e Dawai) starting from edible algae to flower and dry fruits, Herbs and Spices ( Dawa e Gizai)
Edible Resins & Oils.
Book-Unani Botanicals (Zul-khaasa) – which extends from Medicinal Algae to Higher land plants and trees; listed in order of Evolution and modern taxonomy ( families) divided into various six parts, such as Medicinal fungi to Monocotyledon and Dicotyledons and Resin/ exudates & oils, widely used in Unani Medicines.
Book – Unani Biologicals discussing the animals ( marine and land) and their parts used in Unani Medicines
Book – Unani Geological describes physical matters ranging from rock stones to minerals and salts used in Unani Medicines.
I have referred to the 12th-century Herbalist Ibn Baytar’s book ( Volumes 1 to 4) Published by CCRUM for getting a note of the authentic usage of a particular herb and food with mentioning the names of Herbalist.
