Description
The camera and radio/voice recording union, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), is not a fun topic – but it is SOÂ important to understand it and its implications on your work, whether you are a producer, an actor, a casting director, etc… Though SAG-AFTRA has a website, it is very difficult to negotiate, and even when you can, it does not cover many “grey areas” or the true implications of how its rules apply in a right-to-work state. Here are some sample questions that may give you an idea of the importance of understanding SAG-AFTRA. As a producer, what are things you may do inadvertently that will cause a fine from SAG-AFTRA? How do you become a signatory? How does an actor join SAG-AFTRA? Does an actor need to join SAG-AFTRA? Can a producer use a big star who will be on a SAG-AFTRA contract and have all the other actors on a non-SAG-AFTRA contract? What is a “plus 10” and what do you owe your agent if there is no “plus 10” negotiated into your contract? Can you get a SAG-AFTRA pension without joining SAG-AFTRA? What is “fi-core”? This is just a smattering of questions that you should be able to answer if you are a producer, director, actor, or casting director. If there was even one question that you couldn’t answer, you need to take this SAG-AFTRA course!
