Professor Lada Adamic created the Social Network Analysis MOOC to instruct a diverse audience in a practical way to make sense of the structure and evolution of social networks. This course draws from a broad array of disciplines including sociology, mathematics, computer science, economics and physics in its online interactive demonstrations and hands-on analysis.
The online classes utilize Gephi, NetLogo and R tools to cover network theory, analysis and application in order to help learners observe and understand different networks as well as their structures. This approach is intended to help learners build an intuition for the structure and evolution of social networks and identify important nodes or hidden community structures as a part of in-depth analysis, discovering new ways to decipher the communities and networks that surround them through the theories and practices applied throughout the course. To date, this course has reached over 210,000 global learners.
