This course will give you a systematic approach for developing your ear and also for knowing where a pitch is located on the fretboard. You’ll be presented with principles including intervals, bass notes, and diatonic triads. Each of these topics will apply to a question and answer format where you’ll be presented with a pitch or chord, and will then be asked to find it on the sixth string. I’ll then give you the correct answer along with any pertinent information about the process involved in finding that pitch or chord.
In volume 2 we continue with the study of the major and minor diatonic triads. You will be presented with various progressions which are common patterns that occur in all styles of music.
In volume 3 of Ear Training, I will combine rhythmic figures with chord progressions. I suggest listening to the groove to understand the rhythmic subdivisions. You must also focus on the phrase length which will always keep you aware of where beat one occurs.
In the fourth volume of Guitar Lab: Ear Training. I will demonstrate various modes and their respective harmonies. It’s your job to guess which ones I’m playing, using only your ear.
This volume of Guitar Lab: Ear Training Vol. 5 will focus on blues sounds. You’ll learn how to organize your inventory of scale degrees based on the tonal color as well as the theory relating to the prevailing chord. You will also learn principles for developing variations of any melodic motif.
6th volume of Guitar Lab: Ear Training will focus on moving lines within chord structures. There will be two categories: ascending and descending lines. These lines may be diatonic or chromatic and may occur as any voice within the harmony. This course will equip you with many common harmonic and melodic moves which will help you instantly know what is going on in music. You will also possess a large inventory of moves that will serve you in composition and improvisation.
