Hi friends!
In this class you’ll learn how to color clay & make marbled pottery. I will show you the WHOLE process, from raw clay, to finished pottery.
Topics I will cover:
– materials you will need for coloring clay
– how to mix the color into your clay
– the simple math to get good, strong colors
– how to combine colors to make a marbled body
– tips for throwing & trimming with marbled clay
What I will not cover:
I will assume you know already how to throw & trim pottery on the wheel, so this topic will not be covered in this class. If you want to learn about this topic, you can take my online bner wheel class. Otherwise, you can also use this marbling technique to build pottery without the wheel.
Tools & materials you will need:
– stain for ceramics (ie. Mason Stains)
– clay (I am using a white stoneware)
– a surface to work on (I use this wedging board, or you can make your own)
– a scale (kitchen scale is fine)
– access to a kiln to fire your pottery
– optional: throwing & trimming tools (ie. bucket, sponge, rib, loop tool, wire tool)
