Description
Every 90 seconds, someone gets diagnosed with cancer in the UK.In 2019, around 391,000 people were diagnosed with cancer, in the UK.The incidence of cancer is increasing at frightening rates.Thankfully, survival rates are increasing too. In 2020, 3 million people were living with cancer in the UK, and this number is expected to increase to 5.3 million by 2040.In most cases, cancer isn’t a death sentence anymore. There is life beyond cancer. However, after treatment, life can look very different from how it used to be pre-cancer. Often people change physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, financially and spiritually. – Stress, fear, uncertainty, possibility of recurrence of cancer comprise day today life of someone living beyond cancer.- Limited energy and chronic fatigue threaten not being able to do enough at work or in personal life.- Secondary losses arising from cancer plummet the quality of life drastically. e.g.Unable to do physically demanding jobs anymore.Having to start a new career because their post-treatment body can not support their former career or you want you live differently.Loss of fertility for younger patients; the anger and grief that stem out of this loss are unfathomable.Stress from changed relationships because being a friend to someone going through cancer isn’t easy.Financial stress: from loss of work, possibly paying for treatment depending on where you live in the world, and expenditure on various therapies to support recovery. Some carers need to take a break from their careers to look after their loved ones. Impact on mental and emotional health. So much change leading to uncertainty about ‘what next’ in their lives.Phew! That was a handful, wasn’t it?Unfortunately, the cancer support centres are bursting at their seams and there isn’t enough support for people living with and beyond cancer. So, what’s the alternative? The alternative is to decide that we, people touched by cancer, become active participants in rebuilding our lives after cancer. That’s exactly what this course aims to help you achieve. It helps you rebuild your life after cancer, so you can lead a high-quality life, irrespective of your prognosis. It is based on concepts of psycho-oncology, personal transformation coaching and experiences of a cancer survivor. In this course:- We learn how to deal with stress, fear and loss (both primary as well as secondary) rooted in cancer.- We get clarity on how we want to live the rest of our lives, so we can make the most of it.- We stop feeling broken so we can feel whole again and fall in love with ourselves and our lives all over again.- We get back on our own two feet, so we can become contributing members of economy again.- We rebuild our lives after cancer, one step at a time, and live fully and meaningfully.I understand that cancer often depletes us of energy (because of how cancer and its treatment impacts our bodies), time (because we have to fit in cancer in an already busy life) as well as money (because we may need to take time off work and it can be paid or unpaid leave). This course is great for people who want to access coaching to rebuild their lives after cancer but have little energy, time or money to invest in it. It presents concepts on short videos and you can dip in and dip out of it as many times as you’d like.We may not have chosen cancer but we can choose how we respond to it.I can’t wait to help you start rebuilding your life after cancer. Let’s do it.Best,ParulCoach, Speaker, Cancer Survivor, 6-times published Author, including author of the book ‘My Cancer Journey – A rendezvous with myself’. “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” ~Dr Wayne DyerPS: See what others are saying about my work on cancer coaching:”My whole world came crashing down when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017. From being fit to being so unwell, the change has been crazy.A friend connected me with Parul and surely, she has held my hand and guided me. One of the most important takeaways from this course has been to keep physically active, eat healthy and look after myself while the treatment is going on. Fatigue management is another important aspect she helped me with.I now understand that self care is not being selfish. Rather it is the best thing I can do to make sure that I can be there for myself and my family.”Binu Roy, Breast cancer survivor”I connected with Parul at a time when I was stuck – but didn’t realize it. I was dealing with the reality of a loved one living with terminal cancer and found myself struggling to cope with my emotions. What I appreciated about Parul was that she took a whole picture approach. During my first session – she asked me if I wanted to talk about this moment or make a plan for the next 12 months. I was shocked – my mind was so stuck in the chaos of the day, I wasn’t even thinking about the month ahead of me let alone the next 12 months.Still, I mark that moment as a turning point for me. I realized that I needed to reconsider my identity. Instead of seeing myself solely as a cancer caretaker to be – I had to focus on the part of myself that liked to exercise, do business and create. It was a fundamental shift and Parul helped me appreciate that failure to develop myself outside the cancer would be irresponsible and setting my self up for a failure.Over the six sessions we had together, I found myself getting stronger and stronger. Stronger in my conviction, my identity, my life purpose and my faith. I now look at my loved one’s cancer prognosis as a part of our lives. It is something we have come to live with and not fear and dread. Every now and then I dip back into the feelings of sadness and hopelessness. It is a moment and I move through those moments with so much more ease and lightness these days.”Eva Fernandes, partner to a cancer patient”I read Parul’s book in one go on my return flight, emptying my bag of tissues, partly because of the raw memories of my brother’s journey that it triggered and also realizing the extent of what she went through.Having lost my sibling 12 years ago and my uncle a month ago to Cancer, I am thankful for this book. What I particularly found useful very pragmatic sections on how you can help and support a patient whether you are a family member, a friend, a coworker or a neighbor. She leads an active life which she calls her new normal as an independent professional who coaches and trains corporate executives. Her story reminds me of the quote “Hope is not the conviction that something will turn out well but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out” – Vaclav Havel.”Sudha Kanago, family to a cancer patientMedical disclaimer: Please note that this course is not a replacement for any medical or professional help. I have shared it in good faith as a cancer survivor and a coach to help fellow human beings fighting possibly the worst fight of their lives. Also, I have implemented every single concept shared on this program myself and have achieved transformational results for myself as well as my clients.
