Description
This course designed to explain the principles of vibration measurements and acceptable vibration values for rotodynamic pumps measured during factory and on-site inspections based on recommendations of international standards – ISO 10816-7, and ANSI/HI 9.6.4.
The guidelines in each standard has a specific scope, that is the ANSI /HI standard covers vibrations on non-rotating parts, while the ISO standard covers vibrations measured on both the rotating and non-rotating parts. Similarly, each standard covers specific industry and applications and thus simultaneously cover a wide range of industries and applications.
Vibration measurement during the factory inspections is of paramount importance in ensuring trouble free operations and reliability of the plant and equipment. Similarly vibration measurement in the field is an essential part of condition monitoring of rotodynamic pumps. Although these standards are dealing with new pumps, the compliance to the permissible vibration limits guarantees good health in operations and this information can be used as a baseline for field monitoring and planning interventions.
Excessive vibrations in pumps can come from design deficiencies, inadequate quality control during manufacturing, improper testing arrangements – factory and site included, and from faulty installation and operations. This course covers the ground rules for balancing, fits and tolerances, proper testing arrangements and highlight the essentials of correct installation and operations.
Although it is desirable that the participants are familiar with the basics of vibrations and vibration analysis, nonetheless the basic concepts related to vibrations and vibration analysis are covered under a sperate title which is referred to in this course as a pre-requisite.
I hope that this course will assist the participants in improving their understanding and effectiveness in the field and will help in improving the reliability of the pumps in the plant.
